The Seattle Mariners have promoted another prospect to the big leagues this season to make his debut, Isaiah Campbell. Campbell is the latest pitcher to be drafted, developed, and promoted to the Major Leagues under President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. Campbell was drafted in the second round of the 2019 draft out of Arkansas.
This season Campbell has been coming out of the Travelers bullpen exclusively and performed quite well. He has only allowed seven earned runs all season in 24 innings and has only walked seven batters. On the season he had over 10 strikeouts per nine innings and just over two walks per nine innings.
The former Razorback has been even better as of late. In his last seven innings he has not allowed a run and has held opposing batters to just a .091 batting average, .200 on base percentage, and a .136 slugging percentage to go along with eight strikeouts compared to just three walks.
Campbell has yet to make his debut after being recalled from Double-A as of postgame July 6th, but Campbell will be coming out of the Mariners bullpen soon.

Mariners Draft Spotlight
As the draft is very nearly upon us, it is the time of year when prospects gain “helium” in the baseball industry. These prospects are considered to be rising up draft boards and are becoming the subject of public chatter. One of the prospects who is considered to be rising as of late is Kent State lefty Joe Whitman.
Joe Doyle of Future Stars Series has been talking about Whitman in numerous places including his MLB Draft podcast Over-Slot and on the FSS Plus podcast. He has Whitman ranked as his 42nd best prospect in the class, which is only the fifth college pitcher in the top 50 of his rankings.
Doyle praised the lefty saying, “Whitman was one of the top performers during the 2023 campaign. He took his 2023 performance and parlayed it into some time on the Cape where his stock has seemingly jumped even more. Whitman has a shot to go on Day One this July.”

Whitman might be an under-slot pick for the Mariners at 29 or 30 or they could aim to take him with their 57th overall pick. We have seen Seattle be successful in the past with college arms and they could look to replicate that success by drafting and developing Whitman and eventually promote him to the big leagues like the club has done with Logan Gilber, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo.
The MLB Draft begins this Sunday July 9th and can be attended in person in Seattle or viewed on ESPN or MLB Network.
