Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani was named the American League Player of the Month for June as MLB unveiled its monthly award winners Monday afternoon.
Ohtani launched 15 home runs, drove in 29 runs, and legged out seven doubles and three triples while slashing .394/.492/.952 in the month.
His 493-foot blast on June 30 was the longest-recorded homer hit in MLB this season and made him the fourth player in AL history to leave the ballpark 15 times in the month of June.

In addition to his offensive exploits, Ohtani threw 30.1 innings on the mound, striking out 37 hitters on his way to a 3.26 ERA over five starts.
It is the third Player of the Month honour for Ohtani, who took home the award in June and July of 2021.
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was named the National League Player of the Month after slashing .356/.429/.683 with nine home runs, 26 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.
It is also Acuna Jr.’s third career Player of the Month award and his second of 2023, after winning in April.

On the pitching side, Canadian lefty James Paxton was named the AL Pitcher of the Month after going 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA over five starts for the Boston Red Sox. He struck out 34 over 31.0 innings of work, allowing just six earned runs and six walks.
Paxton is now a two-time Pitcher of the Month after securing the award in July 2017 as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
He punctuated his great month with a season-high 7.2-inning start against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 30.

Blake Snell took home the NL Pitcher of the Month after posting a 0.87 ERA over 31.0 innings. He struck out 53 and allowed just three earned runs in June.
The San Diego Padres now feature the last two NL hurlers to earn the award after Michael Wacha was May’s winner.
MLB also awarded its Rookies of the Month, with Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson taking home the honour in the American League and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll earning it in the National League.
The final monthly awards given out were the Relievers of the Month. Orioles closer Felix Bautista was the American League recipient for the second time in 2023 and Philadelphia Phillies righty Craig Kimbrel picked up the National League honour — the fifth of his career.
