The Seattle Mariners made one notable trade during trade deadline season with the Arizona Diamondbacks sending Paul Sewald to the desert in return for rookie outfielder Dominic Canzone, upper minors infielder Ryan Bliss, and big league infielder Josh Rojas.
Dominic Canzone is a left-handed hitting outfielder who will turn 26 years old in a few weeks. He has a track record of hitting in the minor leagues at every level he has ever played at. This season at Triple-A Reno Canzone put up his best numbers with a .354/.431/.634 slash line with 16 home runs in 71 games. He was also walking almost as much as he was striking out. Playing in Reno and the Pacific Coast League certainly helps hitters tremendously, but those numbers are still impressive. In a very small sample size at the big league level the lefty is hitting .224/.283/.347 through 53 plate appearances.

Ryan Bliss is a former second round pick who has made his way up to Triple-A this year. He had a breakout start to the season in Double-A Amarillo where he hit .358/.414/.594 with 25 doubles, 14 home runs, and 30 stolen bases in 324 plate appearances. After putting up those numbers Bliss was promoted to Triple-A and he has played in just 15 games in with Reno and Tacoma. He joined the Rainiers on the road this week so he will be in Tacoma for the first time next week.

Both of these players rank inside the top 15 Mariners prospects for the team according to MLB Pipeline. In Jason Churchill’s prospect rankings he will have Ryan Bliss ranked 7th in his update coming out soon and he would rank Dominic Canzone at 8th overall but he is in the big leagues now so he will not be ranked.

Lazaro Montes Mashes His Way to a Promotion
The Mariners Player Development social media accounts announced that former top International Free Agent signing Lazaro Montes is being promoted to the Modesto Nuts. He spent this year in the Arizona Complex League after being in the Dominican Summer League last year.
This year in the ACL the big lefty is hitting .282/.452/.555 with 6 home runs in 37 games. The 18-year-old is ranked 11th in Jason Churchill’s Mariners prospect rankings and he will join young infield prospect Michael Arroyo in Modesto for the rest of the season.
